The British rider put in a late lap to top the final practice session ahead of the Estoril Round
The final practice session for the Gaerne Estoril Round provided a calm session but a mixed-up order as some MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship as Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) topped Free Practice 3 ahead of Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) as they both showed impressive pace in the 30-minute session at the Circuito Estoril.
Gerloff had gone top of the session until the final 30 seconds when Redding leapfrogged him with a 1’36.389s, just over a tenth clear at the top of the timesheets as they lead the field before the Tissot Superpole session. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was third despite topping the session early on the stages.
Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) continued his strong start to the season with fourth place in FP3, just a tenth away from his six-time Champion teammate. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was fifth as he looks to kickstart his season, with Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) less than a tenth away from Rinaldi; Rinaldi finishing sixth in the combined standings just behind Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) across all three practice sessions with the Turkish star’s best time coming in the opening practice session.
2013 Champion Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) showed strong pace with seventh in the final practice session as the lead BMW rider, finishing around a tenth clear of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) having a strong Saturday morning with eighth, while Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team) finished on exactly the same lap time as Razgatlioglu as the pair finished ninth and tenth in the final practice session.
